Hi all,
Please check the dates for club meetings by following this link to the meeting dates. The past few months have been a big old mess for our club. We as a club need to get back on track, I realise that the few changes to meeting dates have caught a number of us out.
Our web page looks sad due to a lack of new info, we need all members to pull together as I feel we are loosing our way a little. Not just for our club but especially for our sponsors, this year we have been given one of the best deals we could hope for. If we wish to keep our sponsors we need to show them that we are serious.
I know I have been to a few meetings this year where only four of us have turned up. The most embarrassing thing for me is that I had the wrong date written in my diary for this month. For that I must apologise, it has been posted since the start of the year that we could not hold a meeting on the 28th of this month since the venue was not available.
This is why the meeting was set for the 21st (one week early)
While on the topic of meetings, we have a new incentive for increasing attendance.
At the last meeting where we all got there on the same night, we decided that those who attended would have there name placed in a hat. The idea is to have a draw, the more meetings you attend the more chances you have of winning.
What do you win?
The winner will have their shed paid for at the next race meeting they attend, or they will receive a cheque to the same value.
All this is thanks to Darryl McNeill from All Panels and Parts our sponsor.
We should have had our first draw on the 21st... but with only four people there on the correct night it didn't happen. Our next race meeting is on the 23rd / 24th of August... We should have a brief meeting at the conclusion of the drivers briefing to conduct our first draw to see who gets a free shed.
The next club meeting is on the 25th August... Please attend... You could be a winner!!!
We have a great club... Lets live up to the high standards we have set for ourselves over these past years....
If you have anything you can submit for the web page please... PLEASE send it to me..
Cheers
Scott Clements, President of the Improved Production Racing Association of SA.

Hi Folks,
Well, the first meet has been run and won and Scott Clements celebrated his return to racing win a win for the event, well done Scotty. I actually spent the meeting doing flags, so aside from looking like a complete ass dressed in fluro orange, it was actually a pretty good thing to do. Let me tell you the fact these guys give their free time free of charge to help us maniacs get out there and have some fun is bloody good of them. It's harder than it looks.
One thing that does concern me is the amount of panel damage that is becoming more of a feature in our class. With HQ's excepted (for obvious reasons) there was more hits in Improved Production than any other class. The net result is that four cars were left unable to continue.
I don't know about you guys but I race to a fairly tight budget and panel damage is one thing I'd like to factor out of the financials. It's more fun to spend the cash on go faster bits. See you at round 2.
Seeya 'round.

Hi Folks,
Well the page hasn't been updated for sometime but those of you who know what's been going on in my life, you would know that I've had my s*** magnet turned up to 10 again. For those of you who don't please accept my apology for the delay in transmission. Anyway, the first round of the South Australia Titles has been run and won and it was a very interesting meeting. We had 26 cars roll up for qualifying, which made our field the strongest once again. It was great to see a few more new cars like Rudi's 190e, John's Magna, Michael's Evo, Sean's Cortina and Stratton's Celica. We have posted the results on the reports page and the points from the sporting car club, however we have yet to post the club points and the race reports. I hope to receive both of these items shortly, so please check back soon.

The updates are throughout the site, so have a poke around and see what you can find.
Here a bunch of pictures from round one complements of Paris Charles.

Don't forget to contact Paris to purchase some of these great shots!

The only updates are these news flashes, and the addition of a car to the for sale page.
First off Happy New Year to you all, 2007 looks like being a good year even if we are going to have a limited number of runs this year in SA. We have gained a few new cars and it looks like quite a number will be making a return which is very pleasing.
My next bit of news may come as a bit of a shock to some of you!

Brett Doddrall.
On December
16th 2006 Brett lost his life in a road accident when the
motorcycle he was riding collided with a kangaroo. For those who may not be sure
of the name, Brett was the cheerful, outgoing young man who was the assistant /
mechanic to Double Four Motorsport (Scott Clements
– Escort #44).
Always keen and
eager at race meetings
Brett helped Double Four Motorsport to many
successful race / championship wins.
Brett will be remembered
by many of our interstate competitors along with the local competitors
and officials as someone who was always
ready to talk and party.
Our deepest condolences to the Doddrall family, Narelle, Paul and brother James.
Things sure are going to be a little different with out you champ!
Scott Clements, Vice President of the Improved Production Racing Association of SA.

Well it's been awhile since the site has been updated, but I've finally got it done. As our members in SA would know I've had a year off from racing while I've been working on my house and helping my wife gain some track time ready for making the jump into racing. I have been a little slack and their have been a few drama's along the way this year but I've got the bug again, so grab a cuppa and have a read as we prepare for season 2007.
The IPRASA would like to thank Boost Worx Engineering for sponsoring us during 2006 . You can click on the banner below for information on the services offered by Boost Worx Engineering or you can follow the links to their home page.
I have updated a lot of stuff, race reports, driver / car profiles, results, links..... I'd suggest working you way through the site as a number of things have changed. First off I thought I better post a letter written to the National IPRA body voicing our concerns, some how I'd managed to miss this posting this letter on the website. You may recall that Luigi read this letter out at a club meeting some time ago. Anyway if nothing else lets hope it sparks some healthy discussion as we refresh / inform a few peoples minds about our concerns.
Paul / Delegates,
I wrote a similar letter I think back in 2004 due to a number of factors that took away from what I believed the “spirit of fun” that this category should enjoy.
Our normally conservative SA group embraced the idea and suggested that Scott Clements our National Delegate at the time follow it thru, Scott believed that the timing was not good as the preparation for the Ballot items was underway which was where the priority and thoughts were, therefore put to one side without opportunity to have our members thoughts.
Over the last 12 or so months there has been a number of issues that have come to light that have brought this proposal to the fore again at our SA Committee meetings, followed thru at our Club meetings with endorsement in principle from our members to send to the National Body and then onto all IPRA members for discussion with the view to implementation with “National approval”.
What has brought this about?
The amount of discussion/concern for the “Late Model class” and ways of making it attractive with changes having even performance advantage or preferably slanted to the “Late Model class”.
I have had a number of calls from interested parties with modified late model road cars (and a couple that had tried Drifting) keen to have a go in the Improved Production category only to find that their vehicles were modified beyond what is currently allowed, in particular in the suspension department due to fabricated suspension arms.
(With Drifting becoming more popular and under CAMS wing, people will be in and out of the Drift category trying it. There could be an opportunity to have some move into the IPRA category with “minimal changes” apart from “engine tune”)
Attempt to make it easier for the scrutineers as result of the introduction of the Targeted scrutineering with the number of vehicle variants they have to deal with.
Originally the proposal was constructed to try and take away as much as possible, area’s of concern on vehicles that took up time in off track / on track “discussions” that took away from just having fun in this category but made “little” difference to on track performance with consideration to “early cars”.
It is considered to advantage on track performance for the “Late Model class”.
What is being proposed?
Current wheel/tyre regulations to remain as is.
Current body modifications / regulations to remain as is.
(Additional consideration given to “Late Model class”, allowed to “pump” their guards out 20mm per side.)
Steering mod to ie: rack and pinion to remain as such and steering box to remain as such remainder is free.
Suspension configuration to remain as is ie: strut front end to remain strut, live axle rear to remain live rear, independent rear to remain independent rear.
(Additional consideration given to late model cars with “live rear end “ to have the rear upper longitudinal control arm thru the body shell.)
Spring type to stay as is i.e.: leaf rear to remain as is, coil to remain as is, and torsion bar to remain as is.
Current regulations on the engine/gearbox types/modifications/restrictions remain as is.
Brakes as per current regs.
8. The ”rest is free”.
Discussion:
What this would give is a vehicle that eligibility could be determined more easily,
Eg:
1. Rim / tyre size correct for vehicle spec and covered by bodywork
The bodywork/coachwork modifications are limited to the current rules.
The body width measures up (plus flairs where applicable), are the wheels / tyres covered by the “regulation width”.
There are no control arms thru the bodywork (except late model in rear).
Suspension and steering configuration same as original.
Engine and transmission can be check as per current methods
Minimum ground clearance as is.
Effect to current regulation:
Therefore the changes would occur within the suspension/steering department where most of the freedoms currently lay.
On the front:
Remainder of the steering components.
Remainder of the suspension components.
On the rear:
Remainder of suspension components
Advantages to “Late Model cars” as compared to “early”:
Generally the late model vehicles do not have a lot of room to move within the x/members due to minimum amount of material beyond the original mounting points. (“Early” normally have additional material)
Space for additional suspension arms maybe limited therefore use of existing points/position albeit modified if needed and removal of the existing arms.
Elastomeric bushing with large volume used as isolators to be replaced by solid bushing eg on x/members. (“Early” usually have solid mount)
Some have steer characteristics with roll/cornering force that can be modified or made inoperative.(“Early” do not usually have this “feature”.)
X/member/suspension components have not a lot in reserve when it comes to strength/stiffness when it comes to increasing roll stiffness and increased forces due to racing.
Thoughts on possible negatives.
Cost eg; the use of “spherical rod ends”. The use of these would probably turn out cheaper as they would outlast the elastomeric bushing by a factor more than the cost up and in particular in the area of Ball joints/grease boots near the disc face.
When we look at the current allowed mods no reflection on money is considered.
Manufacturing quality. The allowed freedoms that we enjoy currently allow much manufacturing in both “safety” and “non safety” areas with no problems. With current restrictions we are having to sacrifice “good engineering” with the trading off in “suspension bind” or compliance were it is not wanted for racing which probably does lead to high wear / deterioration rate in suspension bushings.
Stigma with use of “spherical rod ends”/fabricated arms:
Getting to close to sports sedans, the freedoms as proposed for this category are far from what is allowed in the Sports Sedan category. These reflect more so what is happening with “performance” late model vehicles today on our public roads.
Again this is a start point for discussions for our members, always considering the basis of this is to make the sport to be fun with ease of noting eligibility with such a variety of vehicles within the Category for both scrutineers and competitors with consideration for improving performance and attractiveness to the “Late Model cars”.
Please ring me if you would like or return email, hopefully I have covered sufficiently for you to understand the thought process and changes required.
Luigi Deluca
National Delegate for SA.
So what do you think about that guys? Should we post it on the IPRA - Improved Production Racing Association Forum and see what response we get?
If you visit the contacts page you will find a list of all of the committee members who have been elected as a result of the AGM held in November. I will take this opportunity to congratulate all committee members who have been elected/re-elected into a position. We will be posting the November minutes shortly however here are the minutes from October. On that note there will be a few changes for next year. The minute will be available as a download from the home page, this way I can keep this page a little neater. The news page will provide viewers with quick reminders of events, sponsor details and club needs.

Scott Clements, Vice President of the Improved Production Racing Association of SA.

Well it's about time we updated this web site....... I've been a bit slack and a bit busy with normal life...... Anyway....
I've now added the minutes for the last two meetings and the points have been updated for the first three rounds of the club championship and the first two rounds of the South Australian Titles. Another points update will be completed after the Fujitsu V8 round this weekend. The points will then show the club championship totals for five rounds and the South Australian Titles points totals for three rounds.
We have picked up some sponsorship for the Fujitsu V8 round this coming weekend thanks to Shaun from Boost Worx. The IPRASA would like to take this opportunity thank to Shaun for his support of our category.
Ok, now from time to time we need to set the record straight. So here we go, it came to our attention that some vehicles have been running Yokohama tyres that have been sourced from overseas. These tyres can be identified by their compounds and the batch numbers. Importing such tyres undermines the contract we have with Yokohama / North Terrace Tyres. We ask that all IPRASA members use only tyres from the above mentioned suppler. If you're found using inappropriate tyres you will be dealt with at a higher level as outlined in a very pointed letter from the supplier to IPRASA.
For your information here is a link to a list of sizes and compounds available.
Yokohama 048r sizes and compounds
Ok don't forget about the Fujitsu V8's this weekend, come and see all the action. If your thinking about racing, have a chat to any of our guys and we'll give you all the help you need to get started.
Ok now for the minutes of the last two meetings...............
